Why Italy?

My answer is always, “Why not?”.

Italy has cast its enchanting spell on us during our frequent visits in recent years, evoking a recurring sentiment that whispers, "I could live here." Mikey echoes the sentiment, captivated by the stunning landscapes, ancient architecture, and, of course, the exquisite cuisine—reason enough in itself.

When discussing whether or not we should build our “dream house”, as we call it, my thought was to fashion it to our exact specifications (hello, Pinterest dreams). Yet, Mikey proposed a different path—keeping our current home. This choice would afford us the freedom to traverse the globe at our leisure. Travel, my greatest passion, took center stage in our deliberations. The notion of spending a summer on the Amalfi Coast, or even an entire year, became an enticing possibility. With no children, self-employment, and a deep appreciation for the impermanence of life, the dream evolved from a mere pipe dream into a tangible plan.

The catalyst for action occurred this summer after my return from a shoot in Croatia. Mikey, declared, "Let's go! Pick a date..." We realized that waiting for the perfect alignment of circumstances could be an eternal endeavor. So we decided on June of next year (2024). After all, we might as well kick-off summer on the coast sipping Aperol Spritz’ with our feet in the Mediterranean. Also, the necessary legal requirements to make the move would take some time.

Of course, Baby Vannah is coming with us. Her flight alone is an obstacle in and of itself (I will not be putting that puppy in cargo of a plane).

Following thorough self-research, a comprehensive outline for obtaining the necessary visas has taken shape, but we will be meeting with an Italian immigration lawyer this week as well. I believe in manifestation 100%, so we’ve already paid for the first 5 months rent in Italy. Stay tuned for further updates on our adventure ahead.
